LEt's PROTECT OUR FOREST

           Sri Lanka is a tropical country . Our tropical forests , Specially sinharaja is world famous and is a Natural Heritage site.


       


       The forest in our country are found both in the dry zone and the wet zone . Trees are most important becuse they take in  carbon dioxide and send out oxygen making the environment healthy for all living beings . Forest also help to maintain  a regular rainfall , prevent fooods and drought and soil erosion . They also provide medicinal herbs and wood for fuel purposes. Furthermore forests are the natural habitats for wild life and a variety of rare endemic flora and fauna are found in these forest .


        So it is clear that these forests are precious to us .Our ancient kings who built huge tanks protected the forests. But very sadly today selfish people destroy forests in many ways . They cut trees illegally for timber ,  agriculture and chena cultivation. Gevernment also carry out unplanned deforestation for development and housing. Now we can see the negative results with land slides , floods, irregular rainfall and droughts all due to climate change. 


The only solution is to cut trees according to a plan and undertake reforestion wherever possible . In addition people of all ages must  be educated about the value of forests, because it is only human beings who are guilty of this crime. 


 Can you imagine a world without trees?

       A Yakka chieftain named Saman (who is now regarded as a deity) attained Sotāpanna (Sovan) after listening to the Buddha's discourse, and asked for a token from the Buddha that they could worship in his absence. Manigala

   Manigala is another spectacular mountain in the Dumbara Valley, and its ridge is 1,104 meters high. It is considered one of the most vulnerable sites for biodiversity.      The Dumbara Valley or the Knuckles Conversion forest is one of nature's wonders. We feel that the top portion of the 2,000 m boundary, which has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, desires that be expanded to a maximum of 1,000 m.
